Few scientific advances have improved the quality of life of people with hearing loss more than cochlear implants. Nevertheless, it has been a complex process to determine who and who isn't a candidate. Through research and technological advancements, new populations of both adults and children are being considered for cochlear implantation. This talk will describe various types of cochlear implant users through complex case study presentations. We will review outcomes and how cochlear implantation is expanding beyond those who are profoundly deaf.
