Abstract: Cochlear implant cases do not always present in a traditional manner, making it a difficult task of programming for audiologists especially in intricate and difficult cases. This poster provides clinical examples of some unique and challenging clinical situations with current or potential implant recipients and a road map to solve these situations.
Summary:
Objectives: Children with complex and additional needs present us with some of the biggest challenges in implantation. This poster aimed to describe complex cochlear implant cases with unique medical or congenital disorders that require unique decisions regarding candidacy criteria approval or post-implantation programming.
Methods: This is a retrospective review study. We report 3 examples of complex cases with unique medical or congenital disorders of deafened patients who underwent cochlear implantation.
Conclusion: It is apparent that a significant number of these patients do benefit from but traditional measures for assessing the outcome are unlikely to accurately reflect the actual success.
Learning Objectives:
Define, investigate and manage the cochlear implant candidates with additional complex disorders.
Describe the role of electric ABR in inner malformations prepared for cochlear implantation
