PP802 - Cochlear Implantation and Audiologic Complexity: A Case Study

Abstract:
The onset of facial stimulation and tinnitus are known complications for potential cochlear implant recipients which require precise audiologic management to ensure sufficient electrical stimulation without exacerbating adverse side effects. Our patient began experiencing facial stimulation at lower current levels than T-responses were obtained at. After parameter adjustments and the deactivation of electrodes, the patient’s facial stimulation was controlled, though this led to new onset tinnitus. Simultaneously, while AZ-Bio testing revealed performance improvement, the patient continued to struggle with real-world communication. This case study exemplifies potential complications that come into play when attempting to establish an optimal patient outcome.
