Abstract:
This session will begin by discussing the concept of “burnout,” including how it presents itself, risk and protective factors, and impact. Attention will then be paid to the importance of resilience and wellness. Personal strategies for enhancing one’s sense of well-being will be highlighted, including engaging in self-care; caring for the physical, mental, and spiritual self; practicing mindfulness and self-compassion; planning for balance; and building moral resilience. Organizational best practices for improving the work culture for reducing burnout and increasing people’s resilience and sense of well-being will be delineated.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the importance of resilience in the current climate
  • List 3 strategies individuals can use to better take care of themselves, avoid burnout, be resilient and engaged
  • Delineate 3 strategies organizations/institutions can employ to reduce people's risk for burnout and bolster their resilience, wellness, and engagement.
