Medicare is the nation’s largest federal health insurance program. Traditional Part A and B Medicare benefits are coordinated by Medicare Administrative Contractors, or MACs, which are specific to geographic region. Most audiologists will provide services to Medicare beneficiaries at some point during their career and will make contact with their MAC. This session with MAC representatives will be geared towards new professionals, students, and/or practicing audiologists who need to have a better understanding of the Medicare program and how it relates to the profession of audiology.
In this session, we will provide an overview of the Medicare program, the Medicare enrollment process, and coverage policies that relate specifically to audiologists. New limited direct access provisions will be reviewed as well as use of the ABN for non-covered services. We will also review important aspects of the Medicare program such as where to find local coverage determination policies and ways to prevent fraud and abuse. Attendees will also be provided with resources on how find the most up-to-date information from the MAC.
