This session delves into the essential role of audiologists in shaping the patient experience within clinical and community settings. Attendees will explore 1) the benefits of hearing loss peer support groups for patients, families, and audiologists with hearing loss, fostering a collaborative and supportive community, 2)the impact of audism on audiology practice, gaining insights into its relevance and implications for effectively addressing challenges faced by individuals with hearing loss, and 3) practical solutions and assistance, equipping audiologists to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing individuals within the audiology community, fostering inclusivity and implementing tailored strategies for creating a more accessible environment. Beyond patient interactions, the session acknowledges the broader responsibility of audiologists to model hearing accessibility in all communication facets. Through interactive discussions, attendees will learn to implement accessible communication not only with patients but also with colleagues and the wider community.
