In June and November 2023, Dr. Daniel J. Romero and audiology students from Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) embarked on a humanitarian trip to Kraków, Poland to provide vestibular assessment and rehabilitation services to Ukrainian refugees. Testing vestibular function in the community has broad implications for humanitarian efforts in audiology, education, and research within communication sciences and disorders.

Learning Objectives:

Describe an example vestibular protocol when testing out in the community with limited access to equipment.
Identify adaptations to typical vestibular exams when testing in a foreign country.
Discuss basic vestibular rehabilitation exercises provided to patients out in the field.
