Dr. Naveen K. Nagaraj, Ph.D., CCC-A, an Associate Professor at Utah State University, leads the Cognitive Hearing Science Lab. His current research is on studing the cognitive and neurophysiological effects of hearing aid use in older adults. With his extensive background as a clinical audiologist, Dr. Nagaraj utilizes clinical tests along with functional near-infrared spectroscopy to examine changes in brain connectivity resulting from hearing aid use. This research is crucial for understanding how these devices can improve cognition and quality of life in older adults with hearing loss. In addition, his work extends to behavioral experiments focusing on working memory, and speech perception in noise, particularly examining auditory closure ability in children with suspected Auditory Processing Disorders (APD). A key aspect of Dr. this research is to model the impact of speech perception in noise on language comprehension, which is essential for developing future treatment for children with APD.
