FaceView Mask
Medford, Oregon
My substantial history in nursing has impacted my passion to connect with my patients. I have been working as an RN since graduating from the University of San Francisco's School of Nursing in 1975. It was in 1979, working in a burn unit, that I first came up with the idea for the FaceView Mask™. I was unable to connect my trauma patients through my protective mask, and it was frustrating to not be able to form a bond patients who were in such intense pain. At this time, I tested my prototypes in a Cardiac Catheterization Lab. The staff and the patients both appreciated the ability to see the face through the clear mask. In 1982, pursuing my Master's degree at the University of Florida, my thesis topic explored the importance communication and connection between the clinician and patient, which included my vision and research clear surgical face mask in a Cardiac Catheterization Lab. All practitioners wore my mask for the research .Before retiring from nursing, I worked at San Francisco's California Pacific Medical enter in Ambulatory
Сare Unit in the pre- and post-surgical unit for more than 30 years. Overall, I’ve worked as a RN for 44 years. Last year I received the Nurse Innovation Award from the University of Florida.
I have a patent and trademark on FaceView Mask. I received a Phase II National Institute of Nursing Research grant from the NIH.
