I am trained as an audiologist and psychoacoustician. I provide clinical service to tinnitus patients . I have been directing research projects on tinnitus and cochlear implants for over 25 years. I have edited three books on tinnitus, the first textbook, a clinical management guide, and a self-help book. I regularly participate in grant reviews for several government agencies and private foundations. I have served as an FDA advisory panel member and on a Veterans Administration Committee to develop a new Schedule for Rating Disabilities related to hearing loss and tinnitus. I served on World Health Organization Panel on ‘Burden of disease from environmental noise’ and on the National Academies Institute of Medicine Committee on Noise and Military Service: Implications for Hearing Loss and Tinnitus (on which I was the primary author on the chapter on tinnitus). I organized an international Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Conference for 30 years, every August.
